Barry Goldstein: How Courts Fail Children

The purpose is to invoke the changes necessary to protect children and mostly speaks to the current research and offers solutions. However, there are some elements that may be hard to hear to some viewers due to the nature of this topic. Not suitable for children.

Barry Goldstein is a nationally recognized domestic violence speaker, author and advocate. He is the author of six of the leading books about domestic violence and child custody. Barry has taught in a batterer program for 20 years and has spoken to some of the leading professional organizations. Barry is the director of research for the Stop Abuse Campaign and author of the Safe Child Act.

Recent scientific research has closed the circle to confirm present court practices in DV custody cases place children in jeopardy. Contested custody are the most dangerous cases overwhelmingly involving abusers who seek custody to regain what they believe is their right to control their victims. Courts cannot respond effectively without including current research and the right experts who are not limited to just psychology. Present practices lead to premature deaths of precious children.

Fortunately, there is an effective solution and Hawai'i was the first state to consider it.
